Holiday Games May Leave Wallets Dry October 13, 2009

There is a huge line-up of games this holiday season. With a majority of titles being released during the month of November, consumers are going to have to choose between the AAA games that they love and their ever-thinning wallets.
A majority of gamers have already put their money down on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The sequel is projected to sell millions at launch and has even pushed several competing titles to next year, including Bayonetta, Red Dead Redemption, and Bioshock 2.
Several games have decided brave the Call of Duty hype and stick out the holiday sales. Brutal Legend, the underdog of this year, by genius developer Tim Schaffer follows a band roadie that gets transported to an alternate dimension where humans are slaves. The voices of Jack Black and other actors are adding their personalities and likenesses to the game. These actors have been a big draw for consumers.
But the big question for market watchers is if Brutal Legend will be able to sell more than a million copies at launch. Here’s to hoping consumers aren’t blinded by the massive star that is Call of Duty.
Another contender for the November sales is Dragon Age Origin—a World of Warcraft style RPG, by popular game studio Bioware. This game turned heads at E3 with its hardcore trailer set to the music of Marynlin Manson, This is the new Sh*t.
Having a well-known developer behind the game as well as several years of anticipation, Dragon Age Origins is projected to be a strong contender against the Call of Duty franchise. Not to mention, the target demographic of the third-person medieval RPG is different than that of the military first person shooter.
